#1 Fruit Smoothies

Sometimes you want a sugary drink, but sugary drinks are a waste of calories and have zero health benefits. Instead, whip up a fruit smoothie! Pour in some of your favorite fresh fruit. You can use coconut milk or regular milk to make it really creamy. Don’t forget the ice to give it some texture.

#2 Dried Fruit

Sometimes, you just need something sweet to munch on. Instead of grabbing those airheads or sour patch kids, reach for a piece of dried fruit. It’s sweet and sticky and everything you’re craving.

Take it slow though. Dried fruit still has a ton of sugar and could be quite fattening if you eat too much.

#3 Frozen Fruits

The best way for me to swap fruit for a dessert is to go frozen. Take some frozen berries (blueberries work great) and top them with unsweetened almond milk and some stevia. The frozen blueberries partially freeze the milk, making for a uniquely smooth texture akin to soft serve with 1/5 of the calories!

#4 Hakuna Banana

Hakuna Banana is a nicecream start-up that launched in LA and fits in virtually every diet. A few cool things about HB include:

  • It's only 250 calories (or less!) a pint.
  • It's plant-based and fits into diets like paleo, gluten-free, vegan, lactose free.
  • It's got great flavors from Blueberry to Cashew Cookie Dough.
  • In addition to ice cream pints, they also sell ice cream bars!

#5 Alternative Dressings

Salads are often the go-to food for men and women looking to eat healthier, but traditional salad dressings aren't made for anyone watching food intake. Just one tablespoon of ranch dressing, for instance, supplies nearly 100 calories -- but there is an excellent fruit alternative to calorie-laden, processed dressings.

Peel and smash a very ripe pear, peach, or similar fruit. Add one to two tablespoons of balsamic vinegar and a touch of honey or another natural sweetener. Mix until combined and drizzle over the salad. You'll never buy bottled dressing again.
