The Different Types of Cementing Equipment

Cement is a material found in many different construction applications. Many manufacturers around the world dedicate themselves to mining and producing the material using the same process. We can break cement manufacturing down into three stages: raw material preparation, clinker production, and the finished product utilized for structures and roadways.

Producing this durable material requires heavy-duty cement wear parts that can withstand constant use and extreme conditions. Learn more about the different types of cementing equipment within each development stage.

Crusher

Developing and refining the raw material with a cement crusher is the first step in the process. Typically, the raw material consists of limestone, marl, and clay extracted from quarries. Then, workers feed the minerals into a vibratory feeder that carries the stone into the cement crusher. From there, a belt takes the material to an impact crusher for further refining.

There are several types of crushers:

  • Jaw
  • Cone
  • Hammer
  • Impact
  • Gyratory
  • Horizontal shaft impactors

Mill

The different types of cement mills include cement ball, vertical, and cement roller press. Once the crushed materials reach the cement mill, they get ground to prepare them for clinker production—the stage in which the material receives heat treatment before creation of the final product. After the material passes through the clinker stage, it gets fed back into the cement mill to produce cement.

Kiln

The kiln is the main device of the production line utilized in the clinker stage. There are two types of kilns: rotary and vertical.

Cooler and Dryer

The dryer in the cement production process ensures the stability of the final product. The dryer produces an even amount of heat to reduce the moisture content of the materials. A drum dryer dries the material by rotating it at low temperatures and creating sheets. The product is then ground within the cement mill to become the finished product. Other types of dryers include:

  • Rapid
  • Impact
  • Tandem
  • Mechanical air separators
  • Autogenous grinding mills

When deciding on the different types of cementing equipment, be sure to weigh your options carefully and choose the machine that utilizes the least amount of energy.
