You likely fantasize about sitting on your dock and enjoying the water. However, before running on and off your dock all summer long, you want to make sure it looks good. Observe the Area
With summer just around the corner, all you can think of is resting on your dock, feeling the warm breeze on your face. However, before you relax, you must know how to ready your floating dock for the summer months. The first thing you want to do is observe and inspect your dock and the area around it.
This inspection will help you keep an eye on any changes in its structure and condition that may affect the dock’s integrity. If you notice something, that’s great because you can get it fixed as soon as possible. You don’t want to find yourself mid-summer with a renovation on your hands.
Fresh Coat
One of the best ways to make your dock look as good as new is by applying a fresh coat of paint or stain. Applying a fresh coat every two to three years is a good rule of thumb. However, if the color on your dock looks faded and worn, but time isn’t up yet, you can still apply a coat anyway.
When you consider the fact that your dock is under the sun’s rays for hours, it makes sense that its color can easily wear away. If you choose to paint your dock, make sure to pick a stain or paint specifically manufactured for docks. Moreover, it is good to wash your dock beforehand—just make sure it is completely dry before proceeding.
Deep Clean
You have likely watched those incredibly satisfying videos of people using pressure washers to clean away years of muck and grime. It is surprising to see how much dirt washes away to reveal something that looks entirely different and new. If your dock looks a little darker than it did before, it may have some layers or dirt that need washing. Consider renting a pressure washer, as there is nearly nothing it can’t wash away.
