Three of the Best Poker Books Ever Published

When it comes to thrilling pastimes, there are few that can rival a high-stakes game of poker. Equally as exciting whether you play in person or online, the game has a huge following, so it’s little wonder there are so many books that claim to hold the key to winning.

While these can be a valuable resource for anyone looking to improve their skill set, not all of them are created equal; while some will largely regurgitate what you already know, others have the potential to significantly improve your scorecard.

If you want to know which of them are worth ordering while you have some spare time on your hands, here are three that we’d recommend.

Considered by the majority of professional poker players to be the ultimate book on the subject, David Sklansky’s 1994 publication – The Theory of Poker – contains all you could need to know about the fundamentals of strategy, including how to think like a winner. Stretching to 276 pages, it’s not an overly long nor arduous read, but will nonetheless teach you everything that matters on the topic. Even those it was written over 25 years ago, the tips in this book can also be formats such as live casino online as the experience is immersive like it is in a land-based casino environment.

Ace on the River: An Advanced Poker Guide by Barry Greenstein

While The Theory of Poker should be at the top of your Amazon wish list, there’s another essential purchase that ought to be included just below it: Ace on the River. Authored by one of the most iconic poker players of all time – the inimitable Barry Greenstein – this is the cream of the crop when it comes to not only teaching you how to improve your game, but also what the wider poker circuit is like for the professionals who play it.

Written in a highly accessible style, Ace on the River may be marketed as an advanced poker guide, but it’s actually an invaluable tool for everyone from novices to those with a number of wins already under their belts. Read it, learn it, and apply its techniques, and you’ll soon find your scorecard looks significantly more impressive than it used to.

Last but not least, we would also recommend investing in Harrington on Hold’em, which was published all the way back in 2006. Authored by the 1995 poker world champion, this is a guide to the game written by a man with extensive knowledge of both how it works and how to win.

Co-authored by none other than Bill Robertie, a master theorist and incredibly talented chess player, it delves deep into the workings of the game and the intricate strategies used by those at its pinnacle. Read it once, twice, and then a third time, and there’ll be little left that you don’t know about Texas Hold’em and how to win it.

Isn’t it time you took the opportunity to improve your game?
