Whether you are starting a business, growing one or are simply an employee who wants to know more about the world of business, these are the self-published books you should be reading.

The world of self-published authors is a complicated one, to say the least. When people hear “self-published”, they often jump to conclusions on quality and content. They could not be further from the truth, although there are countless examples of terrible quality self-published books, the overwhelming majority of self-published authors are knowledgeable and produce excellent books.

  1. This is a good read, its nice to be able to find apps that are not mainstream, made by startups that really address whats needed rather then paying for over bloated susbscriptions prices from the big fish. This book helped me find some real gems.

  2. I have this on my reading list, to bad it is not in french, though it is very informal and pragmatic for those of new to the industry.

  3. Being from Ireland, we have to many startups here looking to get into the industry without investment, due to our tax here “wink wink”. I found this book suggests some programs companies can use that not many people have heard about.

The Entrepreneur’s Garden is an insightful and compelling book exploring the nine essential relationships that business owners need to master to be successful while keeping and growing their passion for what they do. The story follows an entrepreneur named Sally who started her own business.

While things begin well, she soon finds herself grappling with growing her company. Realizing that she needs to change her approach or give up on her business reaching the next level, she sets her intentions on finding a mentor. Sally meets Dee, who enters her life as a mentor just when Sally needs it the most.

Dee is a successful entrepreneur and believes in sharing how she learned to keep her businesses running smoothly while pursuing other things that were important to her. She points out to Sally that by concentrating on nine key relationships, she can surpass her dreams…and have fun doing it. Sally learns how a relationship with self, time, money, market, team, partners, legacy, death, and results will help her realize everything she wants to do in life.

Throughout the course of the book, Dee not only gives Sally the philosophy behind each relationship but also teaches the practical applications. Sally, in turn, applies the lessons in her business and shares them with others.

#17 Future-Proofing Your Organization by Teaching Thinking Skills

Due to changing demographics (Boomers will be out of the workforce by 2030) we need to develop future leaders pronto, but more importantly, we need to develop everyone.

This large-scale need for employee development is going to require a strategic development plan. We cannot accomplish what we need to accomplish through “silo’d training” or by delivering one class at a time.

Companies need a wholly integrated curriculum that develops individuals over the course of their career and immediately pays-back the organization.

This book illustrates the way to do it.

#23 Lean MRP

Lean MRP explains how to implement a Lean Manufacturing pull system on the shop floor using "virtual kanbans" enabled by a stable ERP-generated production schedule. This essentially establishes a traffic control system that will reduce congestion and travel times for materials and products in a factory. This is not the usual “yada-yada”.

The concept of Lean MRP is a novel one, which holds the promise of transformational change particularly in job shop environments. In addition to attaining the on-time performance, inventory, and lead time benefits of a pull system, Lean MRP can also help improve the accuracy of forward-looking schedule projections to support the making of reliable promises to the customer.

This book is for those manufacturing managers who have always strived for a Lean operation but nevertheless feel that a computerized ERP system offers a more practical and scalable solution for managing a large, complex, and/or turbulent shop floor.

They update The Fractal Guide continuously so that you are sure to have the best tools and tips available. It definitely won’t waste your time with fluff content. I highly recommend it.
