#1 Searching for God in the Garbage

In order to have happy and healthy relationships, a person needs to be happy and healthy. In order to be happy and healthy, a person needs to fill his or her soul with the nourishment it needs. This is the simple yet vital takeaway from my new memoir: Searching for God in the Garbage.

#3 Boundaries Updated and Expanded Edition: When to Say Yes, How to Say No To Take Control of Your Life

I often recommend Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life (Cloud and Townsend) to my clients. It's one of those books that provides an 'Aha' Moment in every chapter. Who knew that establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries could be so life-changing?

#5 The Power Of Now

Definitely, without a doubt, the best book for relationships is The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle. This may come as a surprise because the book is not marketed as a relationship book at all.

Most people are looking for a solution to fix their relationship when in reality they need to be fixing themselves.

The Power Of Now highlights that a large majority of relationships are not loving relationships, but rather love/hate relationships, rooted in insecurity and co-dependence. Only by reaching inner peace may two partners have a strong relationship that is beneficial for the both of them, and not toxic.

The Way of the Superior Man by David Deida is a great book to read. As a driven and goal orientated person, I strive to live my sole purpose in life and this book helped me find balance in myself and in romantic relationships.

#7 His Needs, Her Needs

This book changed my life. There are things I really want in my marriage: especially affection and conversation. So I would try to give those things to my husband, not realizing his needs are different.

For many men, these needs are completely different from what women really want. For example, many men really want a recreational partner, a person they can pursue fun hobbies with. This inspired me to find a new and fun hobby to enjoy with my husband, attending pro soccer games together.

#8 Reinvent Your Relationship

A Therapist’s Insights to having the Relationship You’ve Always Wanted - The book talks about common problems couples experience, the importance of understanding self and partner's motivations, needs and the barriers that both face to improve communication, care, and connection. At the same time, it provides proven techniques to help improve these.

#11 How Full Is Your Bucket

This is a great book with a really simple but life-changing concept; if we do nice things for others, it helps them feel better but it helps you feel better in return as well. This can be used in any type of relationship- with your spouse/partner, kids, friends, relatives, etc. But, it also helps you to see people out in the world who are in pain, so you can do little things like smile/notice/acknowledge them to help them feel better, which helps you feel better too!

#12 Love, Sex and Staying Warm: Creating a Vital Relationship

One useful book which I have recommended to clients is “Love, Sex, and Staying Warm: Creating a Vital Relationship”. Written by Neil Rosenthal. This book is extremely helpful to the extent that it provides a practical and accessible guide for couples to use in recognizing the early warning signs of discord, rather than allowing such discontent to fester over time. Again, the book is very practical and provides a great guide for couples seeking to re-ignite their passion and strengthen the connection between them.

#13 He Said Stay: How To Trust And Obey Even In the Midst Of A Suicidal Storm

A lover's book on adultery, debt, children, pornography, forgiveness, and love. These are everyday challenges that couple’s face and may tend to divorce before getting to the point of giving it one more chance.

Take a peek inside the lives of this couple who not only defied the odds of staying together but crushed them. For anyone who wants to defeat the status quo of a relationship - this is your inspiration (journal included).

#14 The Power of A Praying Wife

Stormie Omartian gives hope, inspiration, and practical guidance from a woman’s perspective in marriage. We can read loads of ‘couple’s books’, however, when a woman needs another woman’s touch, Stormie puts the “possible” back into a seemingly impossible situation.

A must-have for women to talk a change on spiritually supporting their husbands in the most Divinely-loving way.
