What Is The Best Time Of Year To Practice Pest Control?

It goes without saying that if you see mice or cockroaches scampering around your kitchen, you should not hesitate to call an exterminator right away. This is what most homeowners do, but if you’re ready to take a proactive approach and stop infestations before they happen, regular pest control services are a great start. So, is there a best time of year for pest control maintenance?

The Right Time Of Year To Hire A Pest Control Service

When the weather begins to slowly warm up again, usually from around March and through to July/August is the best time of year to hire regular commercial or residential pest control experts in Chicago Illinois. It is during this time that many rodents and insects come out of dormancy and become more active. They are hungry after the cold winter months and will begin to look for food anywhere they can find it, including your home, and they’ll be persistent in their efforts.

Research conducted throughout over 10,000 pest control treatments determined that March through to August are the best time to get your standard pest control inspection done, but that range may vary by your location and seasons.

Internal Perimeter Treatment

When the weather begins to warm up, your regular pest control service will start their inspection by spraying all around your kitchen, bathroom, and skirting boards. The spray exterminators use contains ingredients such as deltamethrin that is designed to knock down any residential and commercial pests. Because the spray has been specially formulated for use amongst the occupants and their pets, it only has a residual effect that lasts for 2 to 4 months.

This procedure will eliminate the pests that have become active in the warmer weather. It also stays around long enough to take out any hatchlings and takes care of approximately 50 to 80 percent of dormant and active pests within 24-hours. Applying this spray at the beginning of the peak busy season ensures that any pest coming into contact with the spray area will be eradicated.

Roof And Crawlspace

During a routine pest control maintenance service, a dusting treatment is done in your roof and crawlspaces. A dusting machine is used to blow an application into the crevices and hard to access places. The effects of this last for up to one year and is designed to eliminate old pests and deter new ones.

Specialist equipment is needed for this process. It is designed to keep the product away from being in contact with the building occupants.

Gel Bait Applications

Baiting gel is a technique where kitchen cupboards and closets have gel placed in out-of-reach crevices and cracks. It lasts for up to one year. When the pests eat the gel, they are exterminated. The gel needs to be replaced every 12 months because the flavor becomes unappetizing to pests after this time frame.

Only a pest professional will be able to quickly and efficiently eliminate potential infestations from your home or office, but there are steps you can take to stop infestations year long.

  1. Thanks for helping me understand that pests start becoming active when the weather starts to get hotter. With that in mind, I will hire a pest control company in July to ensure that we are not infested with any pests. As of now, it is still quite cold as we usually turn the heater on so there might not be any sign of pests yet.
