The best way to start the conversation would be to say “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’ve heard so many nice things about you.” Be prepared to be asked what those might be, so if necessary ask your girlfriend for possibilities – like her pride in their professional achievements, or her mom or dad’s great cooking, etc.
