The Guerrilla Girls have been battling bias against women in art since 1985. This book is an eye opener, showcasing works of art in the book then giving the backstory and how women fit or as was usually the case, didn’t fit into the work! Guerrilla Girls don’t want to say anything bad about geniuses of the Italian Renaissance like Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, or Caravaggio, but let’s face it, it’s guys like them who made things tough for women artists.

Starting with them, art history is written as the story of one heroic white male artist following another. Being a female artist myself, I found the book quite revealing and closed the book with a better understanding of why there are so many challenges being a female artist! The book is full of great illustration and to an artist fun to read!
