This classic Italian wine evokes the inherent romance of Italy and goes well with just about any meal you're sharing together. Even better, the 2014 vintage was awarded 3 Bicchieri by 2018 Italian wine guide Gambero Rosso -- the highest award given to outstanding wines that are great examples of the type.

On the nose, this is bursting with strawberry, red berries, and notes of sage, spice cake, and subtle earth. Vibrant and medium-bodied on the palate, revealing lively cherry and exotic spice and leading to polished tannins and a delicate finish.

This red blend from Chile is intriguing and full-bodied, with intense notes of red berries, spicy aromas, and soft tannins. *The name and starry label of this soft, juicy red elicit a romantic note *-- Dos Almas means two spirits, and refers to the combination of Italy and Chile: the Italian Zonin family began Dos Almas in Chile driven by the desire to promote the biodiversity and cultural heritage of two incredible wine regions of the world.

This Italian wine works perfectly, because it can go with a main course or be something you open up before heading out (or if you need to cut a date short). It's grippy, ideal for meat dishes or rich aged cheeses, with acidity and tannins. Plus Nebbiolo has full-bodied flavor and a delicate scent.

Contributor tip: look for Langhe Nebbiolo as sometimes these grapes are pulled from the same vineyards that produce Barolo and Barbaresco. It's much more affordable than those varietals (often just because of perception not quality) and not difficult to find a bottle in the $15 - $20 price range.

This wine brings significant amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah to form a solid vinous backbone. More Bordeaux varietals—Merlot and Petit Verdot—were added to round out the flavors of this intriguing blend. This inky, satisfying red is beautifully bold but balanced, with notes of dried herbs, charred vanilla and a pleasant hint of smoke that lingers on its silky finish.
