What is creepier on Halloween than the dead talking from their graves? The Spoon River Anthology is a compilation of free verse monologues told by the inhabitants of the Spoon River, Illinois grave yard.

Spoon River Anthology truly gave me the creeps when I first read it in high school. The dead coming back to life to talk about their lives–I could just see the ghosts floating in that grave yard.

In the story we learn about murders and secret love affairs. Lost dreams and lives well lived. Bitter wives and abusive husbands. Stories of life are woven together by the dead in a truly creepy and unforgettable way in the Spoon River Anthology.
