Seen by many as one of the best leaders of a country in the modern age, Winston Churchill’s popularity and levels of respect stretched right across the globe during his time in office as Prime Minister of Great Britain during the Second World War. For years, his persona of a steadfast, devoted and stubborn individual came to epitomise an entire nation, and it was his unwavering commitment to the cause that saw the country through its darkest hour during the summer of 1940.

Last words: “Oh, I am so bored with it all.”
