Summer is the time for adventure! The weather is beautiful, school is out, and it’s the perfect time to travel the world. However, traveling can quickly become expensive, making it difficult to experience other cultures and places if you’re on a tight budget Through a bit of planning you can still travel and save money at the same time. Here are some simple tips to help you save money on vacation and still see the sights you’ve always wanted to visit!
Travel During Non-Peak Seasons
Summer is a popular time to travel, but if you are smart about planning than you can save money even when traveling is popular. For example, because of its extreme beauty and culture, Europe tends to be a popular destination for travelers in the summer. Popular destinations tend to have higher-priced flights. However, you can always plan your trip during a non-peak season to help save money while traveling. Avoid big holidays and popular times to travel. Also, choose flights with dates and times that most people don’t select such as traveling on a weekday rather than the weekend, or booking red-eye flights. These are all great ways to save a little cash when traveling.
Cook for Yourself
This isn’t always possible while traveling, especially if you’re in a foreign country, but when you can, try and cook for yourself. Go to a local grocery store and buy a few items that you can use to whip up a meal. Eating out is expensive and cooking for yourself is a great way to save money. If you are in a foreign country, going to the grocery store can be a great way to experience the local culture.
Travel Light
When traveling, especially if you are getting on a plane, pack light. Channel your inner-minimalist and pack just the essentials. Make sure you have clothing that is weather appropriate and no more than a week’s worth of clothing if you are planning on being gone for a while. This will help cut down on airline fees and will save you precious time at the baggage claim.
Volunteer While You Travel
Volunteering as you travel is a great way to not only save money but to also experience a culture directly. Research travel vendors that offer the chance to work in order to get a discount or even stay for free! There are some great volunteer-travel platforms around, so do some research in the areas you wish to travel to see if there’s an opportunity for you.
Traveling can be expensive. However, you should think of vacations and traveling the world as an investment. Think of all of the people you will meet while traveling the world.
